Your privacy
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Move Where USA handles, why we use it, and the choices available to you.
Effective and last updated: July 15, 2026
1. Who we are
Move Where USA is a relocation research service that helps people compare U.S. communities and create personalized town rankings. This Privacy Policy applies to movewhereusa.com, our account and authentication services, and the features we provide through them (collectively, the “Service”).
2. Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you use email and password, we store a one-way password hash—not your readable password. We also maintain account, authentication, and session records needed to keep you signed in and protect the Service.
Google sign-in information
If you choose Continue with Google, Google provides basic profile information associated with the account you select: your Google account identifier, name, email address, email-verification status, and profile image. We also receive and maintain the authentication tokens needed to sign you in and link Google to your Move Where USA account. We do not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, contacts, or other Google content.
Relocation preferences and content
We collect the information you enter or save in the Service, including relocation priorities, filters, target locations, housing budgets, saved searches, ranking adjustments, chat messages, collaboration invitations, shared-search information, and feedback. If another user invites you to collaborate, that user may provide us with your email address.
Technical and usage information
We may collect IP address, browser or device information, user-agent details, session timestamps, pages used, feature interactions, and diagnostic or security events. If enabled, privacy-focused web analytics help us understand aggregated site usage and performance.
Affiliate and referral interactions
Some links, including links that help you find a local real estate professional, may be sponsored, affiliate, or referral links. When you choose one of these links, we may record the page or community associated with the referral, a campaign or referral identifier, and limited information a partner provides about whether a connection was completed. If a referral feature asks for contact or request details, we collect only the information you choose to submit.
Information stored in your browser
We use essential cookies and browser storage to maintain sessions, preserve authentication return paths, remember comparison lists and interface settings, and keep unsaved searches, chat drafts, or other workspace state available as you navigate the Service.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Create, authenticate, secure, and support your account.
- Generate personalized rankings and preserve your searches, preferences, chat history, and collaboration choices.
- Operate, troubleshoot, analyze, and improve the Service.
- Respond to feedback, requests, and security concerns.
- Provide a professional referral you request and administer or measure disclosed affiliate and referral relationships.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorized access, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Comply with legal obligations and protect legal rights.
4. How we use Google user data
We use Google profile information only to create, authenticate, link, secure, and support your Move Where USA account; identify the signed-in account; prevent fraud or abuse; comply with applicable law; and associate your saved Service content with that account. We do not use Google user data for realtor referrals or affiliate marketing. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or use it to train a generalized artificial-intelligence model.
We do not include your Google OAuth tokens or password credentials in prompts sent to an AI provider. Service providers that host, secure, or maintain our systems may process Google user data only as needed to provide those services to us and subject to appropriate restrictions.
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
5. AI-assisted features
When you use the relocation assistant or natural-language preference tools, your message and the relevant preferences, chat context, and ranking information needed to answer it may be sent to our AI service provider. We store chat messages, structured chat memory, model responses, and limited usage or diagnostic records so the feature can work across a conversation and so we can monitor its quality and reliability.
Please do not enter highly sensitive personal information in chat. AI-generated output may be incomplete or inaccurate and should be independently verified before making a relocation, housing, financial, legal, or safety decision.
6. When we share information
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers. Vendors that help us provide hosting, databases, authentication, analytics, mapping, security, customer support, referral administration, and AI-assisted features may process information for us. They may use it only to provide services to us, subject to their agreements with us and applicable law.
- Collaboration and other user-directed sharing. When you invite another user or join a shared search, information is shared as necessary to carry out your request.
- Affiliate links and professional referrals. We may receive compensation if you follow a disclosed affiliate or referral link, request an introduction, connect with a professional, or complete a transaction. A third-party site may receive a referral identifier and the technical information ordinarily provided by your browser when you visit it, and its own privacy policy applies there. If a feature offers to send your contact or request details directly to a realtor or another professional, we will identify what will be shared and with whom before you submit it, and we will share it only after your affirmative request. We do not provide Google user data through these referral relationships.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, enforce our terms, or protect users, the public, or the Service.
- Business changes. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or part of the Service, subject to applicable law.
We do not operate as a data broker or sell or rent lists of users or account profiles. We may receive affiliate or referral compensation only as described above and at the relevant point of interaction.
7. Data retention
We keep account information and saved content while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. We may retain limited records longer when reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, backups, or enforcing agreements. Browser-stored information remains until it expires or you clear it. Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained where it can no longer reasonably identify you.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your account credentials confidential and notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.
9. Your choices and privacy requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of certain personal information. Use the Feedback button in the site header and begin your message with “Privacy request.” We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
You can revoke Move Where USA’s Google access from your Google Account permissions. Revoking Google access prevents future Google sign-in until you reconnect it, but it does not by itself delete your Move Where USA account or previously saved Service content. Submit a privacy request if you also want that data deleted.
10. Children’s privacy
Accounts and interactive features are intended for users 18 or older. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us through Feedback so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
11. U.S. operation
Move Where USA is operated in the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or our data practices change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate.
13. Contact us
For privacy questions or requests, use the Feedback button in the Move Where USA site header and begin your message with “Privacy request.” Please do not include passwords or other sensitive credentials.
