Score

Ski Access

Nearby operating downhill ski areas score higher, weighted by distance, lift/run scale, vertical drop, and combined skiable vertical.

Scale0-100

Higher values rank better for this score.

How It's Calculated

The latest published score is normalized to a 0-100 scale. The method below explains what the score rewards, with technical source metadata available for audit.

Scoring Method

How the ranking is built

Ski Access rewards places close to operating downhill ski areas, especially larger ski areas with more lifts, runs, and vertical.

  1. 1

Each nearby ski area contributes quality score / 100 times an exponential distance decay.

  2. 2

Only the top contributing ski areas are included, up to the configured maximum.

  3. 3

The summed raw presence is scaled to 0-100 with a cap.

Known Limits

  • Ski Access measures mapped ski infrastructure, not snowfall quality, pass prices, crowds, traffic, road closures, or current conditions.
  • OpenStreetMap coverage and ski-area metadata completeness can vary by place.
  • The score uses straight-line distance, not drive time.
