About Abbeville

Abbeville is a city and the parish seat of Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, situated along the Vermilion River southwest of Lafayette. Founded in 1843 by Capuchin missionary Père Antoine Mégret and operating as a major agricultural processing center for rice and seafood, the community of approximately 11,003 is served by the Vermilion Parish School District.
