About Abbottstown

Abbottstown is an Adams County borough with a town square that still carries its old road logic. John Abbott laid it out in 1753, making it the first town established in what became Adams County, and the John Abbott House on King Street remains on the National Register. U.S. 30 follows King Street through the borough as the Lincoln Highway, passing the square, an old well, and the Altland House, a landmark dating to 1790. The Lincoln Speedway and Eastern Museum of Motor Racing add a more recent motorsports layer, while Conewago Valley schools serve local students. Abbottstown is a place where colonial settlement, a coast-to-coast road, and racing culture all meet on the same main street.
