About Aberdeen
Aberdeen is the largest city in Grays Harbor County, set where rivers and timber country meet the Washington coast. Samuel Benn, a New York City native, homesteaded on the Chehalis River in 1859 and later platted the town. Aberdeen grew as a logging, milling, and port city, and that working waterfront history still colors its feel. It is also widely known as the hometown of Kurt Cobain. Aberdeen feels rough-edged, rainy, and deeply tied to Grays Harbor rather than polished for visitors.
