Abram, TX

Abram is an unincorporated census-designated place in western Hidalgo County, in the La Joya school area of the Rio Grande Valley. The 2020 census counted 1,108 residents. U.S. 83 and State Highway 107 connect the community with La Joya, Mission, and the border-region road network, while La Joya ISD serves students through Guillermo Flores and JFK elementary schools, C. Chavez Middle, and La Joya High. The area around Abram is flat, irrigated valley country where homes, farm roads, and school trips share the same map.

The community was named for Texas Ranger Abram Dillard, who lived in the area. Abram's story sits inside the broader west Hidalgo County pattern of ranches, irrigation districts, rail connections, and communities that grew around the Rio Grande Valley's farm economy. Local life runs through La Joya for municipal errands and high-school activities, while McAllen and other larger Valley centers supply broader medical, retail, and employment trips. Abram is small and unincorporated, but its school district and highway links give it a clear place in the region.
