Accomac, VA

Accomac is Accomack County’s seat, an Eastern Shore courthouse town whose site has served county government since 1690. Before the name settled, the place moved through Matompkin, Freeman’s Plantation, Accomac Court House, Drummond, and Drummondtown. The town was laid out around the court square in 1786, and the Accomac Historic District preserves the Federal and Victorian buildings that grew around that legal center. The courthouse, old jail, and Front Street make the map easy to read. Accomac is a Virginia town where three centuries of county business are still visible in the street plan.
