Adams, MN

Adams is a small Mower County city on Minnesota 56, about 17 miles southeast of Austin and 12 miles northwest of Le Roy. Selah Chamberlain platted the village on January 30, 1868, and it was incorporated in 1887. The town’s Main Street alignment still carries the practical geography of the place: northwest traffic runs toward Austin, east-southeast traffic toward Le Roy, while the surrounding Adams Township remains agricultural.

Education and local history have unusually long threads here. A two-room public school opened in 1869 and later grew to four rooms; today Southland Schools operate their elementary, middle, and high-school programs from Adams, alongside Sacred Heart Catholic School. The Adams Area Historical Society and History Center preserve the town’s earlier records, and the Shooting Star Trail gives residents another route through the county landscape. Little Cedar River country lies just beyond town, tying Adams to the waterway that runs south through the region. Life here is organized around Main Street, school grounds, churches, the historical center, and the roads that connect the town to larger Mower County communities.
