About Adams
Adams is an Adams County city whose name was shortened by the railroad. The place was first called South Friendship, but residents disliked the name and the Chicago and North Western Railway changed it to Adams. By 1911, Adams had become a railroad division point, giving the new name plenty of traffic and purpose. The city sits within the Town of Adams and shares its school identity with neighboring Friendship, so Adams–Friendship is the phrase heard around the area. Wisconsin’s Adams is a railway town with a practical name, a neighboring friendship, and a map shaped by the tracks.
