U.S. 101 runs straight through Agoura Hills, giving residents an easy drive to Los Angeles and the coast. Right alongside the highway, the surrounding hills are full of wildlife. At Liberty Canyon, the city is home to the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, a huge landscaped bridge built to let mountain lions and other animals safely cross between the Santa Monica and Santa Susana mountains. Long before modern subdivisions were built, the area belonged to the Chumash and later became a Spanish cattle rancho. Though Agoura Hills officially incorporated in 1982, that early rustic heritage still shapes the town's identity.
