Aguilar, CO

Aguilar is a quiet, friendly small town in the foothills right below the Spanish Peaks. Home to around 450 residents, it sits along Interstate 25 about halfway between Walsenburg and Trinidad. Life here is simple and slow-paced, with big open skies, incredible mountain views, and plenty of breathing room compared to the busier cities up north.

The town started in the 1890s as a busy railroad and coal hub, but it has settled into a peaceful rural community over the years. People are drawn to Aguilar for its affordable homes, generous lot sizes, and easy access to outdoor recreation in the nearby mountains and state parks. Local spots like the community center and historical society keep neighbors connected, while larger grocery stores, dining, and medical care are an easy 20-minute drive down the highway in Trinidad.
