About Airport Drive

Airport Drive is a Jasper County village whose first local story comes from mining-era settlement in the early 1800s. The crossroads still known as Stone's Corner marks the old intersection of Routes 43 and 171, named for Dr. Wilfred J. Stone, whose home and business stood there. The village incorporated in 1947 and took its name from nearby Joplin Municipal Airport; the modern map sits between Joplin, Carl Junction, and the county line. Airport Drive is a southwest Missouri place with a borrowed aviation name and a crossroads that remembers the doctor who once worked there.
