About Albany

Albany sits at the meeting of US 190, LA 43, and the I-12 corridor in eastern Livingston Parish, with the Little Natalbany River running along its east side. The town's modern shape began with the railroad, which established Albany as a stop in 1907-08; Albany incorporated in 1953. Just south of town, the Arpad Hon Hungarian Settlement adds a distinctive layer to the parish story. Hungarian immigrants built farms, churches, and a school there, and the former Hungarian Settlement School now serves as a museum. Albany remains part of Livingston Parish Public Schools, but its location is the point: a small town tied to the river, the old railroad route, Highway 43, and the broader Baton Rouge area.
