Albion, NE

Albion is Boone County's seat in central Nebraska, with 1,699 residents in the 2020 census. Its name was chosen during a game of euchre, and Loran Clark platted the town in 1872. The first railroad and the county-seat designation made Albion a receiving and shipping point for several adjacent counties, giving the city a regional service role that still shows up in its county institutions. County services and seasonal events still draw people into town throughout the year. Albion's current recreation map is concentrated around Fuller Park and the Sports Complex.

Fuller Park has courts, playgrounds, picnic shelters, camping hookups, and the Family Aquatic Center; the Sports Complex adds baseball, softball, soccer, courts, concessions, and covered bleachers. The Boone County Museum and Fairgrounds add countywide destinations, and the 2026 Boone County Fair is scheduled at the fairgrounds on 11th Street and Fairview. Albion is a county-seat city where sports, seasonal gatherings, and county institutions pull the surrounding area toward one small center.
