Alexandria, LA

Set right in the center of Louisiana along the Red River, Alexandria serves as the commercial and cultural hub of Central Louisiana. Pineville sits just across the water, and together the two cities form a close-knit community with deep historical roots. Downtown Alexandria sits right behind the river levee, where brick storefronts, parish offices, local eateries, and event spaces keep the neighborhood active throughout the week. It is an easy place to settle into, combining small-city convenience with a slower, friendly pace of life.

Downtown's Second and Third streets are home to much of the local arts scene. The Alexandria Museum of Art occupies a restored historic building on Second Street, hosting rotating exhibitions, studio classes, and community gatherings. In the spring, the riverfront fills with visitors for the Alex River Fête, an annual festival featuring live music, local food, and an evening luminary procession. Outside of downtown, the Alexandria Zoo is a favorite weekend destination for families, offering year-round animal exhibits, summer camps, and educational programs.

Healthcare and education provide the backbone of the local job market. Alexandria is home to two major medical centers: Rapides Regional Medical Center right downtown and CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital on the south side of town. Together, they provide comprehensive specialized care for parishes across central Louisiana. Students and working professionals have access to higher education through Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) just south of the city, along with Central Louisiana Technical Community College downtown. Expanding health-sciences programs downtown also offer direct training paths into local medical careers.

Traveling in and out of the area is simple thanks to Alexandria International Airport (AEX), located on the city's west side at England Airpark. The former Air Force base has found new life as a busy transportation and business center, complete with commercial flight connections and community facilities like OakWing Golf Club. With its convenient riverfront layout, quiet residential neighborhoods, and quick access to outdoor recreation in the nearby Kisatchie National Forest, Alexandria gives newcomers a comfortable and practical home base.
