About Alice

Alice is a city and the county seat of Jim Wells County, Texas, situated in the South Texas region. Established in 1888 and named in honor of Alice Gertrudis King Kleberg of the historic King Ranch, the community of approximately 17,707 developed into a major oil industry center following the discovery of petroleum. Known as the Hub City due to its central location, the city is served by the Alice Independent School District.
