Alleghenyville, PA

Alleghenyville is a Berks County census-designated place in Brecknock Township, near the Lancaster County line and served by the Governor Mifflin School District. The 2020 census counted 1,015 residents. It is less a municipality with a civic center than a named rural crossroads inside a larger township. Brecknock's first permanent settlers moved along upper Allegheny Creek in the 1730s, and the surrounding land stayed tied to dairy, fruit, vegetable, timber, sawmill, and gristmill work for generations. Alleghenyville had a post office by 1893, but postal service shifted to Mohnton by 1913.

The old one-room-school landscape also disappeared when township schools consolidated into Brecknock School in 1955. Today the place-name survives on roads and the map, while farms, church properties, scattered homes, and the creek valley give it its shape. Alleghenyville's local scoop is a Pennsylvania community that sounds like a borough but is really a farm-country hamlet, carrying a Welsh-named township, an old post office, and an upper-creek landscape in one small address.
