Allen started out in the 1870s as a quiet railroad water stop, where steam engines pulled up to refill from a stone dam on Cottonwood Creek. Named after railroad promoter and former Texas attorney general Ebenezer Allen, the area quickly grew into a bustling trading post for local farmers. You can still catch glimpses of that early history today. The original depot on Butler Street remains standing, and walking trails wind right past the Old Stone Dam, giving morning joggers and weekend walkers a scenic connection to the past.

These days, Allen has grown into one of the most popular suburban communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Major employers in technology, finance, and telecommunications have set up shop here, bringing steady jobs and modern infrastructure. US 75 runs right through the center of town, making it easy to commute into Dallas or head over to shopping hubs like Watters Creek and the Allen Premium Outlets. Everything you need for daily routines, from grocery runs to neighborhood dining, is spread comfortably across both sides of town.

Staying active is a big part of life here. On the west side of the highway, the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center offers indoor turf fields, batting cages, fitness classes, and a golf simulator. Head east toward Stacy Road, and you will find the Credit Union of Texas Event Center, where locals gather for concerts, public ice skating, and Allen Americans minor league hockey games. Between the recreation centers, neighborhood parks, and miles of paved greenway trails, finding a place to exercise or play a weekend pickup game is simple.
