About Allendale
Allendale is the county seat of Allendale County, South Carolina’s last-created county. The county took shape in 1919 from parts of Barnwell and Hampton counties, and the town’s courthouse followed in 1921–22 as the county’s first and only courthouse. Historic listings around town include the Erwin House, Roselawn, Antioch Christian Church, and the Red Bluff Flint Quarries. The University of South Carolina Salkehatchie has been here since 1965. Allendale is a county-seat town where the courthouse and old landmarks do most of the talking.
