Altamont is a quiet rural hub in Duchesne County’s Upper Country, home to around 250 residents and surrounded by sweeping ranchland. The town originally came together in the 1930s when several neighboring settlements pooled their resources to build a local high school so kids wouldn't have to make the long trek to Roosevelt. A high school student coined the name Altamont by blending Altonah and Mount Emmons, creating both the town's moniker and the community anchor that still defines it.

Today, the town serves as a gathering spot for families across the high country, offering a relaxed pace of life against the backdrop of the Uinta Mountains.
