About Altoona

Altoona is a Polk County city on the east side of the Des Moines metro. It was first settled in the 1850s and has grown into a suburban and entertainment hub, best known for Adventureland amusement park and nearby casino and retail development. Altoona is part of the Southeast Polk Community School District, with several elementary schools in the city. It feels like a fast-growing Des Moines suburb with a little more visitor traffic than usual, thanks to its amusement park, shopping, and highway access.
