Alva, FL

Alva is a quiet, rural community along the Caloosahatchee River, just northeast of Fort Myers. Home to under 3,000 residents, it feels worlds away from the busy coast, with sprawling acreage, oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and quiet riverfront properties. First settled in the 1880s by a Danish sea captain, the town has managed to keep its old-Florida charm and laid-back atmosphere intact.

Daily life revolves around the water and the historic Alva Bridge, where locals boat, fish, and take in scenic river views. The small community hub features the historic Alva Library and Museum, housed in a 1901 chapel and the county's first lending library. It offers the best of peaceful country living with practical convenience, as State Road 80 provides a straight drive into Fort Myers or LaBelle for work and shopping.
