Amelia, LA

Amelia sits in St. Mary Parish on the edge of the Morgan City micropolitan area, with Bayou Boeuf marking the parish line to the east and Morgan City about eight miles west. That geography puts the community in Louisiana's bayou-and-industrial belt: the waterway helps define the boundary, while nearby Morgan City supplies the larger regional commercial center. The place name has a personal origin; the first postmaster named Amelia for his fiancée, Amelia Dupuis, who died shortly before their wedding.

Amelia's waterfront also connects to the region's offshore-work history.
