Amidon, ND

Amidon is the county seat of Slope County in southwestern North Dakota, and it holds the distinction of being one of the smallest county seats in the entire country. The town was founded in 1910 with expectations of a railroad line that never quite reached it, but the community quickly found its purpose as the local center of government. Anchored by its historic 1915 courthouse, the town has maintained a steady, quiet presence on the prairie for over a century.

Surrounded by the wide-open grasslands and rugged scenery of the Missouri Slope, Amidon sits just a short drive from White Butte, the highest natural point in the state.
