Amo, IN

Amo is a quiet, close-knit rural community in southwestern Hendricks County, home to around 400 residents. Founded in the 1850s as a stop along the railroad, the town grew up around the tracks that once connected central Indiana's farming communities. Today, it offers a peaceful, slow-paced atmosphere with historic homes, surrounding farmland, and plenty of breathing room for anyone looking to step away from the busier Indianapolis suburbs.

Daily life and recreation largely revolve around the Vandalia Trail, a paved greenway built along the old rail corridor that stretches west toward Coatesville. The trailhead right in Amo features parking and picnic shelters, along with a separate gravel path for horseback riding, making it a favorite local hub for cyclists, runners, and dog walkers. Families are served by the Mill Creek Community School Corporation, giving newcomers access to good nearby schools alongside the quiet charm of small-town Indiana living.
