About Anaktuvuk Pass

Anaktuvuk Pass is a small North Slope Borough city in the middle of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. It is the last remaining settlement of the Nunamiut Inupiat, and its location at the crossing of mountain valleys gives it a true high-country Arctic feel. With only a few hundred residents, the community depends on borough utilities and local institutions, but its setting, cultural history, and distance from road-system Alaska make it unusually distinctive.
