Anchor Point, AK

Nestled on the eastern shore of Cook Inlet along the Kenai Peninsula, Anchor Point is a relaxed coastal town of around 2,100 residents. It holds the title of the westernmost point on North America's continuous highway system, sitting right along the scenic Sterling Highway. Local lore traces the community's name back to 1778, when Captain James Cook allegedly lost an anchor in the inlet waters.

Outdoor life is a major draw here, centered around the Anchor River and its state recreation area, which leads straight to the beach for camping, wildlife viewing, and world-class salmon fishing. For everyday essentials and family life, Anchor Point offers Chapman School for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, alongside a welcoming library, senior center, and local VFW post. When you need larger grocery runs or high school services, Homer is just an easy twenty-minute drive down the highway.
