About Andes
Andes is a town in Delaware County, New York, United States. The 2020 census counted 1,114 residents. Andes contains a hamlet also named Andes. The town is on the southeastern border of the county. At the center of the Andes community is Andes Central School. The Andes school system is one of the smallest public schools in New York State, in 2019, it served 65 students, K-12. That mix gives Andes a clear local shape within New York, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Settlement began in 1784. The town was formed in 1819 breaking off from Middletown. Andes is located in southeastern Delaware County on the western edge of the Catskill Mountains.
