About Andover

Andover's town site appeared with the railroad: settlers arrived west of the present site in May 1881, the railroad reached it in late June, and the town was platted by spring 1882. Day County's historical record places Andover in a largely agricultural county shaped by glacial prairie, lakes, and creeks. The county's later education history records that Andover's schools closed as rural roads and buses shifted students toward other town schools. Its name likely came from Andover, Massachusetts, giving the Day County town a New England echo within an East River farm landscape.
