Andrews, FL

Andrews is a Levy County census-designated place on the Suwannee River, in the northwestern part of the county near Chiefland and Fanning Springs. The wider road network carries traffic through the community, while the most distinctive landscape lies west at the Andrews Wildlife Management Area. The wildlife area holds river bluff, floodplain, and forest country with a much older story: an ancient hunting and fishing camp above the Suwannee, steamboat lumber traffic in the 1800s, cypress logging, and open-range grazing.

The state acquired the Andrews tract in 1985, and the wildlife area now supplies the main public-land connection for the community. The Suwannee remains the organizing feature: limestone bluffs, old logging furrows, and river-navigation history all sit behind the modern road corridor. Chiefland handles the nearby commercial center and county roads continue toward Fanning Springs, while Andrews keeps its place name attached to the river landscape.
