Andrews, IN

Andrews is a Huntington County town on the Wabash River, where the 2020 census counted 1,048 residents. It was platted as Antioch in 1853 and renamed Andrews in the 1880s after a railroad official when the line reached the community. Norfolk Southern still serves the town, while U.S. Highway 24 places it on the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Corridor between Toledo, Fort Wayne, and Lafayette. The river, railroad, and highway give Andrews a clear three-part geography.

The Andrews-Dallas Township Public Library is part of the town's civic and historical life. Its name ties Andrews to the surrounding rural township, and its records helped recover a 1937 film made about Andrews and its residents, footage later featured by the PBS program Across Indiana. Salamonie Reservoir State Recreation Area and Salamonie Dam lie nearby, adding a large water landscape beyond the town streets. Andrews is a place where a railroad settlement became a river-and-highway town, while its library keeps an unusually vivid piece of twentieth-century local memory in circulation.
