About Angola
Angola is an Erie County village in the Town of Evans, two miles east of Lake Erie and 22 miles southwest of Buffalo. The 2020 census counted 2,046 residents. It began as Evans Station, took the Angola name with its 1855 post office, and incorporated in 1873. The village and the lakefront community called Angola on the Lake sit close together, while the Lake Erie shore remains the clearest geographic reference. The village is about one square mile inside the Town of Evans.
The village's everyday map includes its historic center, Lake Erie Beach Park in the Town of Evans, and the Goya Foods Great Lakes division. Angola has also been pursuing downtown improvements through New York Forward, adding a current planning thread to an older street-and-rail village. With Buffalo to the northeast, Lake Erie to the west, and the New York State Thruway to the east, Angola's local map connects village routines to both the lakefront community and the wider region.
