Annville, KY

Annville is a Jackson County community on KY 3630, about ten miles south of McKee along Pond Creek. It is the county's largest community and a working crossroads, with a post office, grocery store, gas station, clinic, nursing home, restaurants, and other local businesses serving the surrounding hills. The place began as Chinquapin Rough in 1878, a name tied to the chinquapin trees along the creek. In 1886 the post office took the name Annville, honoring Nancy Ann Johnson, a local resident. KY 30 and KY 290 connect the community to London and McKee, while Pond Creek runs southwest toward the South Fork of the Rockcastle River.

Annville Institute adds another chapter to the community's history. The Reformed Church in America's women's mission board established work in Jackson County around 1900, and the institute later operated as a school until 1978. Its campus continues to serve community purposes. The Jackson County Regional Industrial Park gives Annville a newer role in county manufacturing and business recruitment, while Jackson County Public Schools serve local students. Worthington Community Park, with its ball field, playground, shelters, and paved track, sits near the center of daily life. The 2020 census counted 1,102 residents, giving Annville the scale of a small service center inside the wooded Kentucky hills.
