Ansonia, OH

Ansonia is a Darke County village at the meeting of State Routes 47 and 118, about six miles north of Greenville. It began in 1845 as Dallas and was incorporated in 1867, but the railroad's arrival in 1852 gave the settlement its real push. Dense swampy ground had limited early building while leaving plenty of hardwood, so Ansonia developed around timber, manufacturing, and the rail connection that carried goods through west-central Ohio.

Today, the village keeps that crossroads shape. Main Street and the state routes organize local businesses, homes, churches, and municipal services, while the school and Darke County's wider network connect families with Greenville and neighboring communities. The village's ball parks and shelter houses add places for local gatherings, and the surrounding land remains a mix of farm fields, woods, and small-town roads. Ansonia has the practical feel of a railroad-era village that grew into a present-day county crossroads without losing its original scale. Village parks and the old rail corridor keep that history close to the present.
