Apache, OK

Apache is a town in Caddo County, Oklahoma, 23 miles north of Lawton on the open farm country of southwestern Oklahoma. The 2020 census counted 1,034 residents. Wheat fields and cattle remain central to the local economy, while roads connect the town to Lawton and the smaller communities around Caddo County. The town’s school and businesses serve a broad rural area instead of a dense urban center. Farm roads, grain traffic, and ranch work fill the spaces between town blocks. That agricultural rhythm remains visible.

Apache took shape after the former Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Reservation opened to non-Indian settlement on August 1, 1901. Land Lottery Director William A. Richards had recommended setting aside the site as a townsite before the opening. That history sits alongside the town’s agricultural present: wheat, cattle, and the work of keeping a small Oklahoma place connected across wide distances. Apache is a Caddo County town with a reservation-era beginning and a farm economy that still sets the pace.
