About Apollo Beach
Apollo Beach began on Dickman family land used for farming and grazing in 1923. The area was first called Tampa Beach and later La Vida Beach; local legend credits Dorothy Corr with suggesting Apollo Beach in 1958, associating the name with sunshine. The unincorporated Hillsborough County census-designated place borders Tampa Bay and counted 26,002 residents in 2020. U.S. Route 41 crosses its center, while Interstate 75 passes through its eastern portion. Big Bend Power Station, which supplies the Tampa Bay area, is visible across the bay.
