Apple Canyon Lake, IL

Apple Canyon Lake is a Jo Daviess County census-designated place that was laid out as a vacation development in the late 1960s by the Branigar Organization. The lake and the roads around it came together as one plan, while the Apple Canyon Lake Property Owners’ Association, created in 1969, took over the development’s rules and common ground in the 1970s. The community’s school lines split among Scales Mound, Stockton, and Warren districts. Apple Canyon Lake feels less like a village that grew street by street and more like a lake map drawn all at once: shoreline, cul-de-sacs, clubhouse, marina, and homes spread through Thompson Township.
