Apple Valley got its name from a brief apple-growing boom in the early 1900s, though the orchards have long since given way to open desert skies and quiet suburban neighborhoods. In the late 1940s, developers reimagined the area as a relaxing retreat from Los Angeles, drawing Western stars Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, who made the valley their longtime home. That easygoing ranch heritage still shapes the community today. Nestled in the Victor Valley with views of the San Bernardino Mountains, Apple Valley has grown into a laid-back town where people come for larger lots, clean desert air, and a slower pace of life.

Because the town is spread across broad desert terrain, daily life centers along a few main corridors. Along this road you will find the historic Village area, which preserves some of the older mom-and-pop character of the town. Further east along the highway sits the Civic Center, which functions as the central gathering place for residents. Its 22-acre park is a favorite weekend spot, complete with an aquatic center, playgrounds, a dog park, and a paved walking trail.

Throughout the year, families gather at the outdoor amphitheater for summer concerts, movies in the park, and Fourth of July festivities. The town also celebrates its Hollywood roots each fall with the popular Happy Trails Parade. When it comes to essential services and local jobs, healthcare is a major anchor, with Providence St. Mary Medical Center operating right on Highway 18 as the area's main hospital.
