Aquilla, OH

Located in northwest Claridon Township, Aquilla is a quiet lakeside neighborhood that originally started as a summer cottage retreat. Over the years, the seasonal cabins around Lake Aquilla grew into a close-knit, year-round community of around 300 residents. Tree-lined streets and water views give the area a peaceful, rustic feel, while outdoor hubs like the Lake Aquilla Wildlife Area and Headwaters Park provide great fishing, kayaking, and walking trails right next door.

Residents enjoy a relaxed, semi-rural setting that sits just minutes from everyday conveniences, shops, and dining in nearby Chardon. Families here send their children to the Chardon Local School District. Although Aquilla operated as an independent village for decades, voters decided in 2024 to dissolve the municipal government and merge services back into Claridon Township, preserving the area's low-key, nature-focused atmosphere.
