Aripeka, FL

Aripeka sits on Florida’s Gulf Coast where Hammock Creek widens into a tidal inlet between Pasco and Hernando counties. The community is a census-designated place surrounded by marshland, with parts of it on either side of the creek. The 2020 population was 320. The road in follows the same low, watery geography that defines the place: Gulf edge, creek, marsh, and scattered homes instead of a deep inland town grid.

The settlement began as Gulf Key in 1873, gained a post office in 1883, and was briefly known as Argo before the Aripeka name took hold. That succession of names reflects a community shaped by water and changing connections to the coast. Aripeka sits near other Gulf-side communities such as Hernando Beach, Bayport, and Pine Island, but its Hammock Creek setting gives it its own map. Houses, small roads, marsh channels, and the Gulf horizon all meet within a very short distance, making Aripeka feel more like a coastal landing than an inland subdivision.
