Aristes, PA

Aristes is a quiet, rural community nestled along Route 42 in Columbia County. Its roots date back to around 1800, when a local stagecoach stop called the Red Tavern helped put the area on the map. The settlement was initially known as Montana before officially becoming Aristes in 1897, named in honor of the ancient Greek statesman Aristides. Surrounded by heavily forested hills, the village offers a tucked-away setting while keeping residents connected to the greater Bloomsburg area.

Home to around 250 people, Aristes has the distinct charm of a small mountain hamlet where life moves at a comfortable, unhurried pace. Route 42 serves as the primary corridor through town, providing a straightforward drive north toward Catawissa or south into neighboring Schuylkill County. Families here are part of the North Schuylkill School District, and anyone moving to the area will find plenty of open space, privacy, and classic Pennsylvania countryside.
