Ariton, AL

Ariton got its start in the early 1900s when two neighboring railroad communities, Ariosto and Charlton, decided to join forces. Local leaders bought the land between them, laid out streets around a shared well, and blended the two names together to create Ariton. The new town quickly grew into a lively hub with local stores, cotton gins, and family-owned businesses. Today, Highways 51 and 123 still cross right in the center of town along Main Street, keeping the easy-to-navigate layout from those early railroad days.

Today, Ariton is a quiet, tight-knit town in Dale County with a classic rural Southern pace. Daily life revolves around local churches, historic landmarks like the old Universalist Church, and Ariton School, a K-12 campus where neighbors gather to support school events and youth athletics. While the town itself stays peaceful and residential, residents have an easy drive to nearby cities like Ozark, Troy, and Dothan for work, healthcare, and shopping. It offers a relaxed setting where neighbors look out for one another, with regional conveniences just down the road.
