Arlington Heights, OH

Arlington Heights is a Hamilton County village and northeastern Cincinnati suburb with 823 residents in the 2020 census. Its unusual geography is the first thing to notice: the village occupies the broad median between the separated carriageways of Interstate 75’s Mill Creek Expressway. Local streets sit inside an urban freeway split, with Cincinnati’s road network immediately beyond the village boundary. The arrangement leaves Arlington Heights as a compact residential community inside a major regional route. The village’s boundaries, services, and houses all fit within that engineered gap.

The settlement was incorporated in 1889 as Arlington, but “Heights” was added because another Ohio municipality already used Arlington. It became a village on January 1, 1905, after streets had been platted and graded and electric, water, and telephone lines installed. The first public building, completed in 1895 at Erkenbrecker and Elliott, served as a meeting place and fire station before a replacement was dedicated in 1932. Arlington Heights carries that planned village layout inside one of Cincinnati’s most distinctive highway corridors.
