Arrey, NM

Arrey is a small, quiet farming community tucked into the Rio Grande valley, roughly eight miles south of Caballo Lake and twenty minutes from Truth or Consequences. Home to around 300 residents, the village was settled in the late 1800s and eventually named after its first postmaster, Urbano Arrey. Green fields still dominate the landscape today, with local farms growing chile peppers, onions, pumpkins, and alfalfa in the rich river soil.

Living in Arrey offers a peaceful, rural lifestyle with close ties to neighboring towns. Younger kids attend Arrey Elementary right in the village, while older students make the short commute into Truth or Consequences for middle and high school. For groceries, healthcare, and other everyday essentials, residents head north to T or C or south toward Hatch and Las Cruces, making it an easy tradeoff for anyone looking for space and quiet along the river.
