Ashburn, GA

Ashburn is the Turner County seat in south Georgia, with 4,291 residents in the 2020 census. Peanuts are the local through-line: the city is home to a 20-foot Peanut Monument, and the county’s processing economy gives the crop a place in town as well as in the fields beyond it. The monument is big enough to make the crop part of the skyline, not just the farm map. The courthouse, county offices, and Ashburn Commercial Historic District give the city a service-center role for surrounding farms and smaller Turner County communities.

The Fire Ant Festival takes over the city every fourth weekend in March with art, rides, car shows, food competitions, and fireworks. Turner County schools are part of the local network, including a 2026 Fire Ant 5K fundraiser for school soccer. I-75 runs along the region, while Ashburn’s downtown and historic neighborhoods keep daily life centered inside town. It is a county-seat city with an unusually large peanut-and-fire-ant personality.
