About Asheboro

Asheboro is the county seat of Randolph County, set in North Carolina's Uwharrie Mountains rather than the higher Appalachians farther west. It was named for Samuel Ashe, North Carolina's ninth governor, and became the county seat in 1796. The city is best known today as the home of the North Carolina Zoo, but it also functions as a practical regional center for schools, manufacturing, health care, and county government. Asheboro feels small-city, hilly, and distinctly central North Carolina.
