About Astoria
Astoria is an incorporated town in Fulton County, Illinois, United States. The 2020 census counted 929 residents. Astoria was originally laid out as Washington in 1836, relocated as Vienna in 1837, and renamed as Astoria in 1839. The name honors fur titan John Jacob Astor, who supposedly owned land in or near the town. That mix gives Astoria a clear local shape within Illinois, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Astoria is located in southwestern Fulton County. U.S. Route 24 passes through the center of town, leading northeast 18 miles to Lewistown, the county seat, and southwest 15 miles to Rushville.
