Athena, OR

Athena is a quiet, tight-knit town of about 1,200 residents set against the rolling hills of northeastern Oregon. Endless wheat fields border the neighborhood streets, giving the entire community an open, rural feel. Daily life here moves at an easy pace centered on farming, the local schools, and familiar faces around town. You will often see grain trucks, families heading to afternoon sports, and the occasional vintage motorcycle sharing the same few scenic roads.

The town has an unexpected claim to fame that gives it plenty of character. During the 1960s and 70s, Athena was the birthplace of Hodaka motorcycles, a cult-favorite line of trail bikes developed right here in town. That quirky heritage is celebrated every June during Hodaka Days. The annual festival draws riders and collectors from across the country for a weekend of parades, swap meets, trail rides, and bike shows shared with the neighboring town of Weston.

Summer also brings the Caledonian Games each July, honoring the Scottish roots of the area's early settlers with bagpipes, Highland dancing, and traditional athletic contests. Outside of the big summer events, Athena offers solid everyday amenities like the Athena-Weston School District, a community library, city parks, and a local pool. It gives residents a peaceful, grounded small-town lifestyle with easy driving access to bigger hubs in nearby Pendleton and Walla Walla.
