About Athens

Athens is a city and the county seat of McMinn County, Tennessee, situated almost equidistantly between Knoxville and Chattanooga. Positioned in the Appalachian Ridge-and-Valley Province, the city of approximately 14,500 is bordered to the east by the Unicoi Mountains and to the west by the Tennessee River. The community serves as a regional educational and commercial center for McMinn County, and is located near Starr Mountain and the scenic Hiwassee River corridor.
