Athens is a city and the county seat of Henderson County, Texas, situated seventy miles southeast of Dallas. Incorporated in 1856 and named after the Greek capital, the community of approximately 13,200 is home to the main campus of Trinity Valley Community College. The city is a certified retirement community featuring the East Texas Arboretum and the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center on Lake Athens, and is served by the Athens School District.
